Hey! What’s going on?
PS. Scroll to the end for a little free gift that will help you do what I describe in this email 👇
Here’s some honesty -
80% of the time, I want to click ‘delete’.
A few days ago I shared a post about finding purpose in life.
It was a pure storytelling post about how I was unhappy travelling South America.
All because I quit my passion (writing)
The point of the post was to show people that purpose is more important than experience.
Here’s the last line of the post that I was low-key proud of.
“TL;DR - Purpose is more important than experience. Align yourself with a goal, and you can be happy anywhere.”
I’m telling you about this because it’s probably the 50th time that I’ve proved my storytelling thesis to be true.
This was the image I used in the post. Cringey af right? But I still posted it, and I still wanted to hit 'delete'.
The data-driven storytelling thesis
One could say it’s data-driven storytelling.
When you talk about experiences that go beyond the surface level, it strikes a chord with people.
And this results in people actually leaving genuine comments.
I’m talking about those comments that make you want to jam out on a call with people for an hour!
Comments that aren’t just
‘totally agree’
or
‘good post’
These are comments that show that what you were trying to communicate, has landed in your reader.
And that’s what this post achieved for me.
Look at this gem for example:
That's the best feeling as a writer.
The Storytelling Funnel
Here’s a quick storytelling funnel I threw together to illustrate this.
As a writer, my main goal is to Impact people through my words.
Action stems from impact.
If my writing doesn’t have impact, I’ve failed.
I pay meticulous attention to all the content I write for myself, and for my clients.
Take this for example, one of my most recent ghostwriting clients said this.
I was perfectly able to replicate his voice (which is the hardest part of ghostwriting) because I was obsessing over the details.
Now here’s the part you were waiting for.
Every single damn time I click publish on one of these more vulnerable storytelling posts, I want to scramble and click delete right after.
It makes my skin crawl sometimes.
“Delete it Alen, who gives an F about this!”
DO NOT DELETE.
Never click delete.
Just publish and watch what will happen.
Your ability to be a kickass copywriter depends on how you can engineer your words to craft maximum impact. And the easiest way to do this is to just write an honest story.
It'll give you trust with your audience, and as we mentioned before, trust is the secret sauce...
So, are you looking to get started writing short-form content on platforms like X and LinkedIn?
I’ve put together a free 3-day email challenge that goes over the basics to help you hit the ground running.
It goes over:
- Storytelling frameworks and content strategy
- How to make offers to your audience $
- How to never run out of golden ideas.
It’s got video breakdowns, and more.
I built an audience of 3k followers and consistently make > $2,000 / month from these strategies in less than 10 months.
No BS, no course, no selling, just a simple email challenge to help you get started.
